Editing Your Site Content

A Guide for Clients Using the Webflow Editor or CMS

One of the key reasons businesses love Webflow is that once your website is live, you don’t have to rely on developers to keep it updated. Whether it’s publishing a new blog post, tweaking team bios, or updating prices - Webflow gives you complete control over your content with zero technical stress.

This guide walks you through how to edit your site content confidently using Webflow’s Editor and CMS.

Two Ways to Edit in Webflow

Webflow provides two distinct ways to manage content:

1. The Webflow Editor (Client-Friendly)

A clean, on-page editing experience - perfect for making quick content changes without the risk of affecting the layout or styles.

2. The Webflow CMS (Content Management System)

Ideal for managing structured or repeatable content like blog posts, team members, testimonials, FAQs, or case studies.

Accessing the Webflow Editor

To start editing your live site:

  1. Visit your live site and add ?edit to the end of your URL (e.g. www.yoursite.com/?edit)

  2. Log in using your Webflow Editor credentials.

  3. You’ll see an interface overlay that lets you click on-page elements, access CMS collections, and publish changes.

Editing Text, Images, and Links (Visual Editor)

Webflow’s Editor lets you edit content directly on the page:

  • Click any editable text and start typing.

  • Hover over buttons and links to change labels or URLs.

  • Swap images with new uploads by clicking directly on them.

Tip: Use the "Preview" button before publishing to check how everything looks across devices.

Managing CMS Collections

The CMS handles dynamic, repeatable content structured around Collections - such as:

  • Blog articles

  • Services

  • Case studies

  • Portfolio items

  • Team members

To edit CMS content:
  1. Click the Collections tab in the Editor.

  2. Choose the collection (e.g. “Blog Posts”).

  3. Click an item to edit or hit “New” to create one.

  4. Fill out the fields (title, image, body text, etc.).

  5. Save, then publish changes.

Best Practice: Keep fields consistent (e.g. image sizes, heading formats) to maintain a cohesive design.

What Can’t You Edit?

To protect your site’s design integrity, Webflow Editor users typically can’t:

  • Move sections or change layouts

  • Add or delete elements (e.g. new columns or containers)

  • Modify styles like colours, fonts, or spacing

These tasks are handled in the Webflow Designer by your developer or agency.

Tips for a Smooth Editing Workflow

  • Use descriptive CMS item names - makes future updates easier to find

  • Stick to formatting rules - e.g. avoid styling paragraph text manually

  • Optimise images before uploading - keep files lightweight and sized appropriately

  • Don’t forget alt text - improves SEO and accessibility

  • Use the scheduled publish feature (if enabled) to plan updates in advance

SEO Settings You Can Edit

Each page or CMS item can have its own:

  • Meta title

  • Meta description

  • Open Graph image and preview text

These are vital for how your site appears in Google results and when shared on social media. Webflow Editor makes it easy to manage all of these from the settings panel.

Example: Publishing a New Blog Post

Let’s say your site has a Blog collection. Here’s how to post a new article:

  1. Go to the Blog collection in the Editor.

  2. Click “New Blog Post”.

  3. Add your title, thumbnail image, categories, and article body.

  4. Fill out the SEO settings and add an Open Graph image.

  5. Click “Publish” - or schedule for later.

Your article is now live and will automatically appear in the blog listing and archives (thanks to Webflow’s dynamic CMS templates).

Common FAQs
